FLSA Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt, 25 hours per week
Prepared Date: August 2023
Pay Rate: $22/hr.

Summary
Our mission at the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California (RMHCSC) is to provide comfort, care, and support to children and families in Southern California. To achieve our vision of creating a community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, and joy. RMHCSC operates seven Ronald McDonald Houses and three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, along with Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times.
The Volunteer Services Associate supports the execution of the LARMH volunteer program, ensuring a positive experience while individuals and corporate or community groups are volunteering at our House.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager, onboard, schedule, train, and supervise volunteers under the House volunteer program.
  • In close coordination with the Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager, continually assess volunteer roles to ensure that tasks meet organizational needs and provide a meaningful experience to volunteers.
  • In partnership with the Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager and Guest Services Manager, assist with training and ongoing support to LARMH staff in directing the work of, and building strong relationships with, volunteers.
  • Assist with volunteer engagement through distribution of surveys, recognition efforts, volunteer interactions, etc., ensuring volunteer data is accurately tracked in Volunteer Hub.
  • Oversee day-of coordination for group volunteer events including Meals of Love, Baking with Love, Days of Service, and other activities.
  • Assist with Meals of Love pick-ups from community partners.
  • Assist with the management of internal and external calendars for House programming and volunteer activities.
  • Create and maintain collateral for volunteer program.
  • Assist with capturing volunteer content for social media, marketing, and recognition.
  • As needed, support Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager with recruitment, training, and day-of coordination of special event volunteers for Walk for Kids and annual Gala.

Knowledge and Skills
General knowledge and demonstrated experience with office management; knowledge of the organizations and operations of administrative programs; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other staff, employees, and the general public; ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. Superior writing ability and analytical skills. Detail-oriented.

Education, Work Experience, and Qualifications
Proven record of accomplishment/support in marketing, communications or public relations for a recognized not-for-profit institution. Self-motivated and able to solve problems. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people and personalities. Experience working with volunteer boards.

  • High school diploma; three years of administrative support in a customer service or nonprofit setting.
  • Confident communicator and outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with and interact effectively with internal and external contacts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and organizational skills are a must with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Language, Mathematical, and Computer Skills
Ability to read, write and/or interpret general business documents and correspondence reports, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, families, employees, managers, and the general public.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts including basic math, percentages, discounts, and interest. Ability to understand and analyze budgets, related to events.
